Please call before 8:30 pm any day if there are any questions and before 7:30 am the day of the ride.

This ride is basically a repeat of Scott Chapman's Mt. Vernon loop with a few changes. We did this ride earlier in May on a very cold windy day so a lot of people missed a great ride. We also tried it in June and got a good part of the way to Mt. Vernon before being turned back by rain. This time we will make it and have a great ride. From Merle's earlier description: "We'll see the nice roads in Hollis, Amherst, Brookline and Pepperell on this ride - as well as this really great hill in Mt. Vernon and a few in Milford."

SPECIAL NOTE: A shorter variant will be available. I have mapped out a 25 mile ride that keeps both groups together until the Monument Square Market in Hollis, N.H. The shorter ride returns through Pepperell after the stop.

Rain cancels. Call the ride leader after 6 am on the day of the ride if the weather is questionable.

Please Note: The start location is the Groton/Dunstable Middle School (Main Street is Rt. 119) if we create a longer route, additional information will be posted.

Please note the earlier starting time of 9 am.

This is your lucky day! A four-leaf clover with 4 scenic loops around Harvard, each of which heads in a different direction from Harvard Center. Some familiar hills and country roads, but a few roads less-traveled as well. The 15-mile loop is a gentle warmup with an optional ice cream stop. The longer rides have some serious hills and a few screaming descents, but don't include the Old Schoolhouse or West Bare Hill killers. Good tune-up for the NVP Fall Century next weekend. Optional food/drink stops at the General Store in Harvard at 15, 28 and 40 miles; and an optional lunch stop at Sorrento's Pizzeria at 35 miles. Sorrento's is dry, so BYO Barolo.

Steady rain cancels. Call the race leader (Dan Tracey) at 978-235-6237 after 8 AM if in doubt.

Meet at the Bromfield School parking lot, 0.1 miles south of Harvard Center on Route 111 (Mass Ave). The parking lot is near the school entrance.

Century Volunteer's Party

Putting on the NVP Annual Fall Classic Century is allot of work and is only successful due to the many people who volunteer their time and energy in preparing for and supporting it.

This party is for the volunteers to get together, eat some summer picnic food and relax together.

The event will be at Steve Davis' house again this year

This 22-mile ride travels through Acton and Stow and then up Stow Road. You end up on a fast downhill on Rte 111 after descending from Carlson Orchards. A nice varied ride. Directions: The station is on Central St. near Main St. (Rte 27) in S. Acton. Rain cancels. I will post a message on the NVP calendar by 5 PM if there is a cancellation.

The GPS 100 mile and 125 mile rides have an "A" and a "B" route to the ride. This is to keep the number of data points under 50 which is the maximum for some GPS devices. At the end of the "A" route you will have to select the "B" route for the remainder of the ride.

Ride scenic 25, 50, 75, 100, or 125 mile routes! Refreshments are offered in Wayland, Harvard, and Dunstable with an additional water stop in Hollis.

All rides start and finish at the Wayland Town Building, Routes 126/27, immediately south of Route 20, Wayland MA.

Other features include:

* Cued and arrowed routes

* Pre-ride mechanical support

Volunteer opportunities: Each year, the club relies on members to donate their time to help with the route arrowing and food station staffing. We need to mark out about 175 miles for the 25, 50, 75, and 100-mile routes, and provide support during the day at the Wayland, Harvard, and Dunstable support stations. This is a big effort, but it really is fun as well. Staffing the tables is a great way to meet and interact with people from areas and clubs well outside the NVP "territory"; marking the route gives you a particularly detailed view of your section of the route, as well as giving expression to your inner graffiti artist.

Pregistration is $10 for NVP members, $12 for nonmembers. On-site registration begins as 7:00am, the day of the event. Cost on ride day is $12 for NVP members, $15 for nonmembers. 25 mile route only, $8.

Post century gathering

Members Meeting - Charity Rides

Our topic for the post-Century Members Meeting in September is Charity Rides. Many of our members do one or more such events during the summer season. We've invited some of these folks to give brief presentations on their favorite event, including what it's like to ride, what the charity is about, how much $$ you have to raise, etc. This will be a great opportunity to build support for different charity rides and to exchange stories about past experiences.

Description: Long rides (34 and 40) travel mainly on back roads through Acton and Carlisle to Great Brook Farm, then cut across a corner of Chelmsford into Westford, then Littleton, Boxboro, and back to S. Acton. Longest ride adds a corner of Harvard (not the hilly part). 23 mile ride turns off in Carlisle, rejoins long route in Littleton, and has one pretty good hill (Heald Rd.). Shortest ride is in Acton and Boxborough, trying to avoid hills. Significant precipitation cancels. If in doubt, call before 9 AM.

Directions: The train station is on Central St. near its intersection with Rte 27 in South Acton.

Connecticut River Ride

Explore the Connecticut River Valley with option to visit historic Deerfield (level 3: 2 miles) and/or climb Mount Sugarloaf (level 5: 4 miles, but astounding views). The longer ride makes use of the Norwottuck rail trail in S Hadley. The detours are available on both routes.

Directions: The Northfield Mountain Visitor Center is about 3 miles north of route 2. Route 63 meets route 2 a few miles west of Erving. Allow at least 1 1/2 hours to drive from Acton.
