DESCRIPTION:Ride: Long Way to Harvard Ride\nRide 1 = 65 Miles\; level = 4-H

 h routes go through Acton\, Littleton\, Ayer\, Groton\, and of course\, Har
vard. The long ride also covers Dunstable\, Pepperell\, and Hollis NH. Both
routes have an optional (hilly) 6 mile extension at the end. Lunch stop on
the long route is in Hollis (store with sandwiches\, drinks\, etc.). No of
ficial lunch stop on the short route\, but there are places to eat at the 2
4 mile point (passing through downtown Ayer). Both routes have one or more
~20 mile stretches without stores\, so plan accordingly. Terrain is rolling
with a few larger hills\, including some roller-coaster hills in Groton\,
a long gradual "flat" climb to Hollis\, and a couple of good hills in Harva
rd. I measured 2400'' of vertical gain for the 65 mile ride\, which is not
so hilly for a ride of this length. Steady rain cancels\, call leader by 9:
00 AM if weather looks questionable.\nDirections: The station is on Central
St. near Main St. (Rte 27) in S. Acton.

DESCRIPTION:The Nashoba Valley Pedalers Bicycle Club annually sponsors a fa
ll century the first weekend after labor day.Ride scenic 25\, 50\, 75\, 100
\, or 125 mile routes! Refreshments are offered in Wayland\, Harvard\, and
Dunstable with an additional water stop in Hollis. All rides start and fini
sh at the Wayland Town Building\, Routes 126/27\, immediately south of Rout
 e 20\, Wayland MA.Other features include: * Sag/emergency support * Cued an
d arrowed routes * Pre-ride mechanical support Volunteer opportunities: Eac
h year\, the club relies on members to donate their time to help with the r
oute arrowing and food station staffing. We need to mark out about 175 mile
 s for the 25\, 50\, 75\, and 100-mile routes\, and provide support during t
he day at the Wayland\, Harvard\, and Dunstable support stations. This is a
big effort\, but it really is fun as well. Staffing the tables is a great
way to meet and interact with people from areas and clubs well outside the
NVP "territory"\; marking the route gives you a particularly detailed view
of your section of the route\, as well as giving expression to your inner g
raffiti artist. To pre-registrater\, click on flyer below or click on the c
entury section of this website. Century flyers are also in your monthly NVP
newsletter.  Pregistration is $10 for NVP members\, $12 for nonmembers.  O
n-site registration begins as 7:00am\, the day of the event.  Cost on ride
 day is $12 for NVP members\, $15 for nonmembers.  25 mile route only\, $8.\

chance to offer this ride up again in hopefully (please\, please\, please)
warmer weather. It is spring\, isn''t it???\nTour the hills of Harvard & Be

Bare. Come see what your legs remember from 2006 and warm up for Howie''s s

half of a century route that was part of the Positive Spin for ALS in Wayla

wise around the Wachusett Reservoir via Sterling\, Princeton\, and Westmins

ts of the ride will be familiar if you have participated in Andy&rsquo\;s a

climbs out of Sterling\, up Justice Hill\, Lucas\, Mile Hill Rd\, and the o

adds a side trip up to Harvard and back. Both routes offer an optional cli

stretches with some traffic. No official stops\, but we usually stop in Gro

Spin for ALS in Wayland MA (hence the name outer 50). Starting in Berlin\,
it goes counter clockwise around the Wachusett Reservoir via Sterling\, Pri
nceton\, and Westminster. As there are only so many roads that are good for
cycling &ndash\; parts of the ride will be familiar if you have participat
ed in Andy&rsquo\;s annual Century Training Ride or the Climb to the Clouds
. Highlights include climbs out of Sterling\, up Justice Hill\, Lucas\, Mil

route avoids the bigger climbs. Rain cancels. Call leader after 7 AM on the

om all over the world come to Massachusetts to compete in this four day sta
ge-race. The race began in 1960 as a memorial for Art Longsjo\, a native of
Fitchburg and the first American to compete in the summer and winter Olymp
ics in the same year. Art was a poor kid with the &ldquo\;Heart of a Lion&r
dquo\; who became one of this nation&rsquo\;s most promising athletes befor
e his tragic death at the age of 26. Since 1960\, all of the best US road c
yclists\, including Lance Armstrong himself\, have competed at Fitchburg. I
n recent years\, the event has continued to grow\, attracting nearly 1\,000
competitors and tens of thousands of spectators. The four days of racing i
ncludes a Time Trial\, a Circuit Race\, a monstrous Road Race which finishe
s at the top of Mount Wachusett\, and the final Criterium on July 1\, featu
ring incredibly fast racing\, mass sprints and tight corners on a closed co
urse in downtown Fitchburg (two blocks from the MBTA station). At the Crite
rium\, category races and victory ceremonies continue all day long. The 25-
 mile Women&rsquo\;s Pro race starts at 3PM\, the 50-mile Men&rsquo\;s Pro r
ace starts at 4:10PM\, ending around 6PM. More info can be found at http://

t''s the same ride I ran in June\, but the 8:00 start received positive com
ments from those who attended\, so I thought I''d try it again. Both routes
  of this ride go through Concord\, Carlisle\, Westford\, Ayer\, Littleton\,
and Acton. The 50-mile loop adds a side trip up to Harvard and back. Both
routes offer an optional climb of about 2.5 miles round-trip to the MIT Hay
stack Observatory where there is an impressive collection of radio telescop
es and some nice views. Terrain is rolling with a couple of longer/steeper
hills\, and there are a few stretches with some traffic. No official stops\
, but we usually stop in Groton (where there is a store) for a snack. Direc
tions: The parking lot is on Keyes Road\, accessible from Main Street (Rout
e 62) or Lowell Rd. in Concord Center.
