We'll be riding on the quiet back roads of Carlisle, Westford, Concord, and Acton. No need to race though this relaxing ride. You'll enjoy three lovely hills, each offering not-so-challenging upgrades and exhilarating downgrades (okay one is Strawberry Hill, but it's not that bad). No Strawberry Hill on the 10 mile route (West St. to Lowell back to West St.).
Leaders are off to a slow start, so be prepared to read provided cue sheets to maintain your own pace. The 33 mile route laps the 21, enabling the leaders to sweep the 21. Also the 33 mile route has a bailout at about mile 13 to do only 15 miles.
Directions: NARA Park is on Ledge Rock Rd. off Rte 27 about one mile N of its intersection with Rte 2A. Park in lower lot near pond.
Bicycle Dreams
Our May members meeting will feature a first for the club - the showing of a
full length film about our favorite subject, cycling. This
film is about endurance cycling at it's most extreme - the Race Across America. We
will be presenting "Bicycle Dreams", the award-wining account of the epic
2005 RAM by filmmaker Stephen Auerbach.
"Bicycle Dreams is the powerful true story of the Race Across America, a
3000-mile bicycle race that challenges riders to cross the country in just
ten days. They must overcome searing desert heat, agonizing mountain climbs,
and endless stretches of open road, all while battling extreme exhaustion
and sleep deprivation. But what begins as the adventure of a lifetime is
transformed in an instant when tragedy strikes the race. These voyagers
discover what is truly at stake as they pedal on, praying for the
deliverance only the finish line can bring. By journey's end, some are
saved, others are lost, but all learn that the fuel that takes a soul toward
its own true destiny is desire."
The film is 104 minutes, so the meeting may last a little while longer than
most of our gatherings.
Doors of the Harvest Cafe open at 7:00 for socializing, meeting starts at 7:30.
